Torn from his family and community during the Sixties Scoop, George Littlechild reconnected with his Indigenous roots as an adult and received the ancestral name nanekawâsis, meaning “lively child.” Through his vibrant paintings and his journey as a Two-Spirit person, he transforms his personal history and the injustices suffered by Indigenous peoples into a work of forgiveness, remembrance, and resilience.
