Esther Willow is a Mi’kmaq singer-songwriter based in Northern Ontario, who crafts a raw, resilient sound rooted in the landscape she calls home.
Formerly performing as Esther Pennell, she seamlessly blends folk, rock, and blues, accompanying herself on banjo and guitar. Known as an innovator in the folk scenes of Northern Ontario and Montreal, Esther channels a nostalgic 1960s and 70s vibe.
Her soulful voice and deep, narrative songwriting explore timeless themes of love, survival, and life in the North. Since 2016, she has released three full-length albums of original music.
Her acclaimed 2020 album, Big Dream, earned a nomination for Country Album of the Year at the 2021 Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards.
With a growing music career and new material on the horizon, Esther continues to share her heartfelt, grounded perspective on the beauty and struggles of human condition.
