QUEBECOR STAGE

Maten, formed by Samuel Pinette, Mathieu Mckenzie, and Kim Fontaine, is an Innu band from Mani-utenam, located on Quebec’s North Shore, between the St. Lawrence River and the boreal forest.

Respected by their peers and recognized by the public for many years (nominated at the 2019 ADISQ Gala), Maten presents their fourth album with a bold alternative folk-rock sound full of energy. One of the group’s defining traits is the strong commitment in their lyrics to their community, their language, and their Innu roots. Their songs carry the values and culture of their people, expressing pride in their identity. Their message is powerful and direct—forward-looking yet grounded in realism, addressing the ongoing struggles faced by Indigenous communities.
