Exposition Kristine Sioui
Abénakise and Wendat, Christine Sioui Wawanoloath was born in 1952 in Wendake, her father’s community. Shortly after her birth, her father passed away, and her mother returned with her three children to Odanak, her own community.
Sioui Wawanoloath spent her childhood there in a family of artisans where creativity and the arts were omnipresent. Later, she attended the renowned Manitou College, the first Indigenous college in Quebec, studying arts, photography, and history, which she continued in Montreal.
Over five decades, she dedicated herself to illustration with remarkable consistency, creating images for various publications, Indigenous events, and campaigns of all kinds. As a visual artist, she participated in numerous exhibitions. She is also the author of children’s stories and plays. Inspired greatly by Wendat and Abénakise legends, as well as by the mythological heritage of humanity, her works are imbued with light and magic.
