Synopsis
When Tracy learns that her mother is dying, she jumps in her car with her dog Pretzel in tow and and heads home to the Northern Saskatchewan community that she had sworn never to return to. The long and dangerous drive (where sleepiness, black ice, and lack of gas stations can be deadly) becomes a real nightmare when a trucker suddenly starts following her. Reminiscent of Stephen King’s monster truck in Maximum Overdrive (1986) and the sinister Highway of Tears, along which many Indigenous girls and women have been abducted and/or murdered, this psychological thriller manages to squeeze in some good laughs between the scares Dene director Kelvin Redvers generously peppered through the film. What the bad guy doesn’t know is that he picked the wrong target: a resilient, resourceful, Indigenous woman.
