In the sterile storage facilities of museums and archives, the remains of our ancestors await. Eleven Indigenous restitution specialists, members of MACPRA (Michigan Anishinaabek Cultural Preservation & Repatriation Alliance), share their experiences of repatriating and reburying ancestors held in institutions inherited from the colonial settlement system. The film reveals the legacy of Indigenous collections, the laws enacted to facilitate the return of human remains and funerary objects, and the journeys of determined women and men who undertake this demanding and complex task: bringing ancestors back to their land.
