Revisioning the Americas through Indigenous Cinema will bring together academic researchers and filmmakers/video artists to take part in a roundtable discussions on Aboriginal cinema in the Americas.

With Paula Morgado (University of São Paulo), Anne Makepeace (Filmmaker, USA), Manon Barbeau (founder and director, Wapikoni Mobile), Nicolas Renaud (Concordia University, Hors Champ journal), Terry Haines (filmmaker, Canada) and other guests.

Aboriginal cinema in Brazil. Taking back the oral tradition in Inuit cinema. Questions of ethics and aesthetics; what is at stake for filmmakers? Experimental Aboriginal film. Land, borders and sovereignty at the heart of Aboriginal cinema. Depiction of self and transformations of the relationship between Aboriginal peoples and the camera.

SPECIAL EVENT – Accompanying the screening of The Grammar of Happiness, a talk by professor and linguist Daniel Everett (Bentley University), Wednesday August 1 at 10 a.m., at INRS.

For the event at Kahnawake's Legion Hall on the 2nd of August, there is a free bus transport from the INRS at 9:00am.
