Synopsis

“Wimawi” is the name of a Kanak mourner’s mask from the Hoot ma Whaap region, belonging to the Whaap clan. Sold and taken to an unknown land, it passed from hand to hand before being put up for auction. Today, on display at the Quai Branly Museum, this spirit from the land of the dead tells its story: the story of Kanak lands.
