TERRES EN VUES/LAND InSIGHTS, an association created to promote native cultures, with headquarters in Montréal (Québec, Canada), organizes every year the First Peoples Festival (Présence autochtone). The film screenings within the 27th edition of this multidisciplinary festival is scheduled from August 2 to 9, 2017.
The festival shows recent audio-visual works about the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas and from other parts of the world, giving priority to works made by Indigenous filmmakers, but also welcoming works by all filmmakers about Indigenous topics. We are looking for films that reveal aspects of the life of Native communities, their real and imaginary world, as well as their customs, culture, history and spirituality.
We accept short, medium and feature length films or other media art works made for screening on the cinema screen; whether drama, animation, documentary or experimental. It must have been produced no more than three years before the festival dates. Unfinished works will only be considered if producers commit to provide a final copy on time for the Festival. The programming committee makes final decisions. The festival will inform each filmmaker if his/her work is selected. Priority will be given to works screened in exclusivity (Montreal premiere).
Films in competition are eligible to awards in various categories. An independent jury chooses the winners. The selection committee defines which category each work belongs to. Usually, a film runs in only one category, unless the selection committee decides otherwise exceptionally.
Screenings take place in Montreal and Kahnawake (Mohawk Territory). Entry is free. For films in competition, the festival will not pay rental fees; the festival will however pay the cost of returning the copies.
Awards will be given during a special event in August 2017.
For selection purposes, we need the following documentation:
