Kawandak et Logan Staats

Logan Staats

Born on the Six Nations Reserve but raised in the small ghost town of Brantford, The young multi-instrumentalists Logan Staats started writing and performing music in his early teens. Once in a blue moon an artist emerges on the scene as if fully formed. The voice is haunting and distinct, immediate in its character. The songs feel like they truly belong to the artist. A product of passion, compulsion, and musical commitment, Armed with his guitar and harmonica he has played frequent live shows in bars and venues. With a level of self-possession , sadness and joy that animates his performance. There's an aura of inevitability that surrounds the emergence of such artists.

Kawandak

Blending strong traditions and powerful musics!!

«Kawandak» (“white spruce” in Algonquian language), quartet put together in 2008 by jazz bassist/composer Normand Guilbeault, is designed as meeting ground for traditional Native American music (Quebec, Canada, United States), and occidental musical forms, integrating it, according to the inspiration, to diverse elements such
as jazz, blues, rock and folk without forgetting a review of some of the great classics of the great classics of the contemporary aboriginal songbook.

Driven by a singular and original approach, Kawandak distances himself from traditional clichés and opts for a new approach of the traditional aboriginal songs. An authentic "Power Quartet", the group distinguishes itself in a unique way, in the Quebec-Canada musical universe, by proposing to the listeners a diversified, rich and authentically «crossbreed» music. Everything in this music calls to us: poetry, songs of love and hope, political and social themes … An ode to nature and the sacred!

Kawandak members on stage are : singer and keyboardist Annie Poulain. Claude Lavergne on drums, Sylvain Provost on guitars and Normand Guilbeault, on doublebass, voice, arranger and musical director.

The last months were more than effervescents for Kawandak. As such, the musicians played Le Cercle (Qc), Théâtre Ondinok (Mtl), L’Astral (Mtl), Festival des guitares du monde (Rouyn-Noranda), Festival de contes et légendes en Abitibi-Témiscamingue and will soon perform at Festival de Jazz de Lévis (Qc) and Festival International des musiques sacrées (Qc). Definitely, one to watch!!
