Wato, the only Aboriginal student in her school, is keenly aware of the hostility towards her. She misses the congenial reserve community terribly. In class, the teacher reads the schoolchildren an excerpt from a history book describing Aboriginal peoples as ignorant and cruel. Shy, vulnerable Wato becomes the target of bullying and brutality. Alone in her suffering, she finds comfort in the protective universe of her magic dreams. Inspired by screenwriter and director Alanis Obomsawin’s personal experience, Quand toutes les feuilles seront tombées blends autobiography, fiction and fable to create a profoundly moving story about the power of dream.
