Revisioning the Americas through Indigenous Cinema

Revisioning the Americas through Indigenous Cinema creates a space for scholars, Native filmmakers/ videomakers, distributors and producers as well as people from local indigenous communities to meet and discuss in order to bring about a collaborative reflection on Indigenous cinema in the Americas. The 2nd edition of Revisioning the Americas through Indigenous Cinema will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Oka crisis of 1990 by proposing activities on the role of film in this significant event.

The encounter of arts and politics in Indigenous cinema. The camera as witness to history.

SATURDAY, JUNE 19, 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. – KATERI HALL, Kahnawake
20 years after the Oka crisis. The role of films in the event and its aftermath: from their making to their public reception.

Forum: Creation and Diversity in Native Art Today

This first colloquium-forum by Artial : art & social will bring together artists, academics, curators and commissioners for free conferences, and will offer a variety of cultural activities in the evening...

June 21 - National Aboriginal Day

CIVIC CEREMONY AT 10 AM IN THE FIRST NATIONS GARDEN OF THE MONTREAL BOTANICAL GARDEN.

An annual ceremony that has celebrated National Aboriginal Day in the presence of government dignitaries and First Nations leaders since 1996.

On the summer solstice, the drum salutes the sun and the heart of the Earth celebrates her children's joy.
