Terres en vues / LAND InSIGHTS received from the government of Québec the Jacques-Couture Prize in 2001 for intercultural rapprochement.


At the 5th Gala Evening of the 2002 Mishtapew Excellence Award, LAND InSIGHTS received the Prix de la Francophonie from Société Radio-Canada. This was the second time in a row that LAND InSIGHTS received a Mishtapew award. The first one being the Prix de la Culture from Ministère de la Culture et des Communications

.LAND InSIGHTS was founded in 1990 and has gone through the turbulence of intense growth. Each year, the founding members, André Dudemaine, Daniel Corvec and Pierre Thibeault have raised girders and added crossbeams to build a bridge between nations as we pass into a new millennium.

LAND InSIGHTS is co-ordinated by an 11-member Board of Directors representing the Mohawk, Huron-Wendat, Abenaki, Innu and Cree nations. Myra Cree, a Mohawk from Kanesatake, chairs the Board.

LAND InSIGHTS is the driving force behind the First Peoples' Festival, making Montreal a meeting place for the indigenous creativity of the three Americas for ten days in June.

LAND InSIGHTS, through its organizational structure and its activities alike, has succeeded in creating a space for affirmation and recognition. If the bridge may still seem a bit fragile, the trust shown over the past eleven years by our many partners as well as by artists and creators has given its existence meaning and confirmed the need for it.

Board of directors

Myra Cree, Chair

Aboriginal cultural and artistic field.
A Mohawk from Kanesetake, Ms Cree has established her reputation as a star television and radio host. She has been involved with the First Peoples' Festival in Montreal since its inception. Ms Cree is well known and highly respected by the Quebec public.

Jeanne Mance Charlish, Vice-Chair

Aboriginal communities.
An Innu from Mashteuiatsh. A techno-linguist and specialist in Algonquian languages. Ms Charlish is responsible for safeguarding and revitalising the Innu language on behalf of the Mashteuiatsh Council.

Jean-Yves de Banville, Secretary of Board

Fields working in partnership with First Nations.
Mr de Banville manages the ECP Production Company. He is a producer of cultural and educational television programming.

Daniel Corvec, Treasurer

Founding Member.
Daniel Corvec has worked in the film field making documentaries and has been involved in many popular educational projects (in particular for Oxfam, the NFB, NABET, and the Communications Common Front…). He is administrative director of LAND InSIGHTS.

André Dudemaine

Founding Member.
André is an Innu, who has made a name for himself as a director and cultural facilitator. He took part in the founding of the Abitibi Temiscamingue International Festival. Since the founding of LAND InSIGHTS, he has acted as its director of cultural activities.

Christine Sioui-Wawanoloath

Aboriginal Women's Field.
Born in Odanak to a Huron father and an Abenaki mother. Well-known illustrator. She has been involved in many Aboriginal publications. Ms Sioui was in charge of the non-violence issue with the Quebec Native Women's association for several years.

Arthur Lamothe

Fields in partnership with First Nations.
The famed Quebec filmmaker has devoted much of his documentary work to a better knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal peoples. 1982 Albert-Tessier Prize.

Michael Benedict

Assembly of First Nations.
Michael Benedict is an Abenaki from Odanak. Mr Benedict is a tax specialist, currently working for the A.F.N.Q.L.

Ernest Webb

First Nations Communications Field.
Ernest Webb is an associate of Beesum Communications, the firm that publishes The Nation; the bimonthly magazine aimed at the James Bay Cree communities. He is now working at the CBC Northern Service.


Pierre Thibeault

Since his childhood in Kuujjuak, Mr Thibeault has always been in direct contact with aboriginal milieus. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Waseskun House and the Montreal Native Friendship Centre's education committee. Mr Thibeault completed a technical training program at Cirque du Soleil in Montreal and organised and designed the concept of the Montreal Native Film Festival.
