Land InSights invites the public to celebrate National Aboriginal Peoples’ Day
Montreal, June 6th, 2023. LandInSights is proud to announce the presentation of Frétillant et agile by Wendat author-performer Jocelyn Sioui on Thursday, June 20th at 7 p.m. at the Grande Bibliothèque de Montréal. This show is part of the celebrations accompanying National Aboriginal Peoples’ Day.
The following day, June 21st , a civil ceremony will be held at Quai de l’Horloge at noon, with dignitaries in attendance: bonfires, songs, palavers and dances to salute the longest day. The ceremony, led by Mohawk elders, will be followed by a performance by Innu singer Shauit.
A nimble, hybrid, mixed-race artist with a sense of humor and whimsy, Jocelyn’s deceptively lighthearted work questions his origins and collective memory. He attempts to pick up the pieces of an obscured history. In Frétillant et Agile, Jocelyn Sioui gives new life to Auhaïtsic, an unlikely Wendat hero. How does this illustrious stranger, who inspires distrust among his own people, manage to save his nation from extinction and change the course of history? A seasoned puppeteer and fabulous storyteller, Jocelyn Sioui enjoys bringing colorful, larger-than-life characters out of the shadows. Author of Mononk Jules, which he adapted for the stage, Sioui knows that sleeping dogs lie in wait.
Frétillant et agile is written and performed by Jocelyn Sioui, with original music by Luzio Altobelli
and Bertil Shulrabe, and lighting by Mathieu Marcil.
