Screening: À la rencontre de l’Humanité Aidante – Sous confidence de la lumière, Joséphine Bacon

The Museum and the International First Peoples Festival invite you to the screening of an interview between singer and actress Chloé Sainte-Marie and Innu poet Joséphine Bacon. 

Presented by the Fondation Maison Gilles-Carle, À la rencontre de l’Humanité Aidante – Sous confidence de la lumière, Joséphine Bacon, invites you into the world of Innu culture and traditions through the experience and particular sensibility of the Innu poet. What follows is a conversation on caregiving, illness and old age. Joséphine Bacon and Chloé Sainte-Marie share their inspiring alternative vision of caregiving, while comparing and contrasting their respective stories. 

This screening at the Museum as part of the International First Peoples Festival is presented by the Fondation Maison Gilles-Carle and was filmed in June 2021.   

Biographies 

Chloé Sainte-Marie is a Quebec singer and actress who has won several accolades for her albums, one of which, Nitshisseniten e tshissenitamin, is performed entirely in the Innu language. Having cared for her partner Gilles Carle, she became a spokesperson for family caregivers and founded the Fondation Maison Gilles-Carle, an organization that supports people with loss of autonomy as well as their family caregivers. 

 Joséphine Bacon is an Innu poet, lyricist, storyteller, speaker, scriptwriter, translator-interpreter and filmmaker from Pessamit. As an ambassador of First Nations culture in Quebec and abroad, she promotes Indigenous pride. The central themes of her writing are nomadism, ancestral teachings, belonging, colonialism and decolonization, and identity. 

Free activity, in French, presented on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (played in a loop throughout the day). Duration: 55 minutes
