SYNOPSIS
In her film, Rebeka draws parallels to the dystopian world imagined in Butler’s Parable of the Sower to that of Turtle Island upon which colonial cartographic traditions and structures have been imposed by intentionally removing Indigenous process cartographies. Rebeka explores the correlation between her experience of stumbling across an unearthed mammoth tusk in the Northwest Territories, brought to the surface through climate change, and our survival through renewed Indigenous performative cartography, ceremonies, lodges, offerings, and sacred sites. Rebeka processed this film with phytograms that included fragments of mammoth tusk, cedar, catmint, and field mustard, and kalanchoe.
