The international conference Revisioning the Americas through Indigenous Cinema examines the role of Indigenous filmmaking experiences and visions in what have been and might become the Americas in a perspective of decolonized futures. Held as part of Montreal First Peoples’ Festival international Présence autochtone since 2009, it aims to build bridges between academia and the world of Indigenous film and media.

The 8^th international conference invites reflections on connections, sustainability, and crisis. Two broad and interrelated questions will guide our conversations, namely: What does Indigenous cinema sustain? What sustains Indigenous cinema? Confirmed guest speakers on Monday, August 15^th, in Kahnawake, include:

Alanis Obomsawin (Abenaki filmmaker, NFB), Sterlin Harjo (filmmaker, Seminole Nation), David Hernández Palmar (Wayuu filmmaker and programmer), Roxann Whitebean (Mohawk filmmaker), Brent Horne (Mohawk filmmaker), Brit Hensel (Cherokee filmmaker), Raohseraha:wi Hemlock (Mohawk filmmaker), Faith Oriwia Henare Stewart (Maori filmmaker), Leo Koziol & Deborah Walker-Morrison (Waiora Maori Film Festival), Tharonhianente Barnes (Mohawk filmmaker).

The conference is organized from Queen’s University, in partnership with Terres en vues and collaboration with the Language and Cultural Center Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa. In 2022, it receives the support and collaboration of :
