The prize-winning films of the 2020 First Peoples' Festival accessible online
Montreal, March 28th, 2021. The International First Peoples Festival will be going nomad on the platform of the Festival du nouveau cinema with the online projection of the prize-winning films from the 2020 competition as of March 27th until April 11th.
These prizes were awarded by an international jury made up of Deborah Walker-Morrison, Māori from Aotearoa (New Zealand), Amalia Cordova, a specialist in Indigenous cinema from the Americas (United States), Maya Pérez Menchú from the Rigoberta Menchú Foundation (Guatemala), Roxann Whitebean, Mohawk filmmaker (Kahnawake), Lesvia Vela, representative of the Rigoberta Menchú Foundation in Canada, Craig Commanda, Anishnaabe artist (Canada), Sophie-Claude Miller, Cree communicator (Canada) and Luc Chaput, film critic (Canada).
With twelve works awarded prizes by the international jury, this program offers the best of Indigenous cinema from around the world. It is a gripping panorama of the experiences, imaginations, struggles, cultures and creativity of the first peoples of the planet, taking in vast territories here and elsewhere, from the Altiplano and the Australian outback, from the shores of Hawaii to the streets of Albuquerque, from Rapa Nui to Haida Gwaii.

This program takes off at online.nouveaucinema.ca, where the tickets are offered for free. Please note: the number of places is limited within a forty-eight-hour slot for each of the eight sessions. First series from April 1 to April 4; second series from April 8 to 11.
