Synopsis

This collection of Maori-made short films is an expression of "Tino Rangatiratanga" or self-determination. For too long, non- Maori told Maori stories, today in a contemporary context the Maori people are making their own films, telling their own stories. The diversity of this collection includes comedy, drama, science fiction, thriller and experimental works. In Tawhiti we see the rebirth of the Maori language in some far off fictionalised future when Maori live on Mars.

With guest curators Leo Koziol, director of Wairoa Maori Film Festival, and Deborah Walker, University of Auckland, New Zealand.
