Synopsis

Contact and colonization has had a profound negative impact on the aboriginal culture and way of life. The rampant corruption on reserves, high suicide rates, addiction, and the housing crisis are all effects of contact and colonization. Deanne Kasokeo, who comes from the Poundmaker Cree Nation in Saskatchewan first wrote the adaptation of the play “Antigone,” which was first produced at the Globe Theatre in 1998. Antigone was then banned from being performed live at the Poundmaker Cree Nation in 2011 by the Chief at that time. The filming of “Antigone, The Play" was directed by Floyd Favel and completed in June 2013 despite the barriers to completion. “Antigone, The Documentary” showcases excerpts of the play while investigating the causes and effects of corruption on reserves and offers possible solutions.

Come meet the crew and the creators of the play on Sunday August 2 at noon, at Pèlerin Magellan restaurant, 330 Ontario Street East. Open to all.
